Eating Out and Your Child’s Health

My family and I just returned from an almost three week vacation and as much as we missed our friends and family, we really missed our favorite foods.  We were prepared on the front end of the trip with a large cooler of our favorite items and two pre-planned stops at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. But as the trip wore on and we found ourselves in unexpected places, the kid’s meals all started to have the same look and feel…fried with a little fried on the side.  Unfortunately, for us, it wasn’t until the very end of our trip that we met the people of Kids LiveWell, National Restaurant Association.  We all know that food prepared at home tends to have less calories and is healthier for you, but we also know that eating at home is not always an option, so I am happy to announce, “There is an App for that!”. The folks over at Kids LiveWell have a free app that allows you to search for healthy kids meals by restaurant or location.  There are over 25,000 participating restaurants all over the country that have dedicated a portion of their kids menus to following these dietary guidelines.  My favorite part of the app is that you can see a list of the main entrees and sides that will be offered.  For me this is a perfect way to find out what your kids will be having before entering the restaurant.

Relative to vendors referenced in this post, we received a cool light weight frisbee and a plush toy cow.
