Best Banana Bread of my Youth

When I was a preteen and life was full of changes: new house, new school, and new friends, I found comfort in the consistent taste of the banana bread we had for breakfast.  I have tried many recipes over the years and this one comes the closest to my childhood memories.  I was recently sent the actual recipe from my childhood, but I didn’t have all of the ingredients, so that will have to wait for another day.  As you read through the ingredients list you will see the option to add chocolate chips or walnuts and the answer may seem obvious but I want to encourage you to try the walnuts version.  The rest of the ingredients of this recipe make for such an amazingly yummy taste and texture that the mild taste of the nuts and the extra crunch will add to your experience.  For less favorable recipes, go ahead and smother with chocolate chips.  Or if you are feeling crazy, add 1/2 cup of both.  Would love to know what you think of this recipe so please leave a comment below.  Do you have a favorite childhood food memory?

  • ½ cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs

  • In a mixer blend the oil, eggs, and bananas.
  • Slowly add the dry mixture to the mixer.
  • Once fully combined, fold in the chocolate chips or nuts.
  • Bake for 55-70 minutes
  • Tip: Baking times vary depending upon the size of the bread pan and ovens so check frequently towards the end of the baking time. The edges will cook faster then the middle so make sure to keep it in the oven until it is fully cooked.
